GOOD LEADERSHIP

Leadership is the instinct traits that comes along with some individuals among people. This traits at times can be hereditary while in many occasions it is an endowed gift from the creator, God. Leadership is all about how to serve your people, how long can you sacrifice for the benefit of others.

Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (PBUH)said:"A leader of a community is their servant." According to a Professor of leadership, John Adair, he said: "Leadership is not all about how to create more followers but how to create more leadership." In the light of this, leadership is all about putting first the priority of others, and putting the burdens of others into one's neck without seeking for a tribute in return. it is having a sense of humility with all people irrespective of their status.

It is a worthy to note that only a ten per cent of people have these traits thus, not all of people are deem fitted to carry this responsibility. In our contemporary society, what gives rise to numerous of mischief is the lust for leadership in the world community by the people. Most are eager to lead for the purpose of whims and self interest, whereas had it been most of them know what constitutes one to be a good leader they would have rather ran against it.

In the word of great teacher of all time, Muhammad (PBUH)said: "Do not seek for leadership, for if you do so; you will be left alone, but if it is given to you; you will be supported. "A reasonable inference from this, is the fact that only a supported leader can be successful even if he did not has all necessary qualities to complete the task.

It is pertinent to mention here that this support is not a just ordinary support from any source but a support from the good people around him who works assiduously to his success. In this regard, leadership is not only by passion but also with instinct traits that qualified one to be a good leader.

This is an indication to everyone to choose their leaders not by physical status but by the virtue that correlates with the achievement of individual that aspires for the post of leadership. By Ah'mad Abdulrasheed O.
